Catchy and fun from start to finish

Ocean Grove’s career so far has been a journey of genre-hopping and a deep love of alternative rock from the 90s.

From hardcore to nu-metal to rap rock, Ocean Grove have thrown themselves into it with a spirit of true fun and unbridled gusto that has made them festival favourites around the country.

Up in the Air Forever is the band’s third full-length hit out, the most cohesive and accessible of their release so far, where they scale back the weirdness-for-weird sake and hone the songs into fun-filled, catchy party tunes. It’s an album that celebrates their Oddworld eclecticism as they try their hand at a raft of different things – sparkling Britpop in the form of Silver Lining, a 90s flavoured nu-groove stomp in Silence and grunge-inflected rockers like Cali Sun and Bustin’. Even modern rap-rock gets a look in with the made-for-the-dancefloor HMU with Lil Aaron busting a move, and straight after party animals Dune Rats drop in to raise some hell on Bored.

The whole deal has a vibe that very strongly suggests the best alternative rock bands of the 90s, kicking back with some brews at a summer festival and having nothing but a great time. The cover even looks like some early 90s pop punk band album you know is going to be catchy and fun from start to finish – which it is.
