There has never been a better time than 2011 for Australian metal. A lot of bands are stepping up to a higher level with solid live performances and killer new releases under their belts . One of those bands is Sydney’s Ouroboros, who have been slogging away for quite some time to quite a positive response and who have just delivered their debut album release Glorification of a Myth, 50-plus minutes of full force technical death metal with no remorse.

Some death metal albums can be guilty of endless sweep picking and blast beating. Ouroboros have plenty of that going on but they also introduce different elements and twists and turns ande meshing it with death metal salvos to create something quite interesting. "Lashing of the Flames", "Panacea", "Disembodied Mind" and "Absent from Entity" are reminiscent of Cowboys...-era Pantera, "Animal, Man ... Machine", "Dissolve" and "Edifice Of Tyranny" draw from the Bay Area thrash sound and opener "Black Hole Generator" (featuring some brutal vocal work from frontman Evgeny Linnik) and "Sanctuary" are pure full-on death metal barrages.

From a production standpoint, Glorification of a Myth is dynamic and gives every instrument room to breathe. But what especially amazes is that all of this was self produced at home in Australia, proving that you don’t have to utilise outside producers/mixers for a quality product.

Glorification of a Myth is a solid debut effort from the Sydney quintet. There is plenty of brutal death metal going on, but the little twists and influences keep things flowing nicely and interesting at the same time.
