The prognosis for Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi has dramatically improved with the news that his lymphoma has gone into remission.

Iommi announced the news in a story in the Birmingham Mail, which reported him unveiling a plaque at the hospital that treated him. While he will continue to need treatment and monitoring for any signs of the cancer’s return, for the imminent future it appears that the outlook is good.

“I have a blood test every six weeks at my GP’s, and I come in here at regular intervals for check-ups,” he explained. “That’s something that I’ll have to live with for the rest of my life, looking for any warning signs that it might be rearing its ugly head again.”
